Having traveled extensively, I have discovered that while it is one of the most awesome experiences there is, it can also be rife with frustration and annoyances. Having experienced plenty of the latter, I can certainly see how traveling abroad and/or traveling for longer periods is not everyone’s cup of tea. But, while some of those hiccups may be inevitable, they don’t have to define your experience and ruin your good time.

3 Tips for More Enjoyable Travel cruise

There are things we can do that will help ease the sting. Here are three things in particular that have made all the difference for me.

Accept What Is and Don’t Try to Compare

People are different the world over; things are done differently, priorities are different,etc..There will be times when you are angry, frustrated or bewildered by something, whether it be the completely inaccurate bus schedule or the service person who seems completely indifferent to your current plight. You are not used to it being done that way; it seems inefficient or illogical. You have a very specific idea of what should be happening, but guess what? That doesn’t matter. I have definitely not mastered this, but traveling a lot has given me plenty of opportunities to practice just accepting the moment as it is, to just go with the flow. I still may not like what is happening at the moment, but removing the resistance makes it much easier to deal with.

Don’t Pinch Pennies at the Expense of Your Travel Enjoyment

Most of us are traveling on a budget, and that is fine. You have to set parameters, and you can’t stray too far from them. Totally understandable. If you figured out you need to spend about 30 dollars a night on accommodations, regularly staying in hotels twice that price is not prudent simply because you would prefer something a bit nicer. But, if you just came off a long flight, and are feeling tired and cranky, and you can afford the 15 dollar comfortable, air-conditioned taxi to your hotel, take it instead of spending two hours transferring numerous times between crowded and hot buses.

Once you see you can eat street food for a dollar or less in many places, that three dollar meal may seem exorbitant—don’t deprive yourself. Arranging travel documents to some locations can be quite involved and a pain in the butt—getting a company to do it for you will certainly cost you a bit more than doing it yourself, but it can save you numerous headaches; if you are traveling to the US for example, citizens of certain countries may find that using a service like www.esta-visa.ie to arrange their travel authorization is well worth it.

Don’t Run Yourself Ragged

There is a lot to do and see, and you want to take advantage of your time in a place; perhaps you will never get to visit again, and you don’t want to miss out on any cool stuff. But, in this zeal to do and see everything, many people run themselves ragged while traveling. With the idea that every second should be filled, you might take that tour that actually sounds pretty boring, or force yourself onto that boat even though you are prone to getting seasick. Let yourself just be. Leave some time to just experience the destination and soak it in.
