So, you are going to Eastern Europe; you are going to love it! The history, the culture, the people…there is so much to love about that region of the continent. Every country within it is unique, and the locations are so different from the usual tourist destinations within Europe. Of all the places I have been, some of the cities in Eastern Europe I have visited have stuck out in my mind the very most.

But you want to be prepared. Whether it is keeping track of the often confusing roads, knowing the currency difference between your country at the one you are visiting or the ability to communicate without relying on finding someone who speaks English, there is an app you can use. These are six you should definitely check out.

1. Eastern Europe: IGO Primo

Anyone who has a car with an AppRadio device (some rental cars come with these now), you can use this excellent app. It works by connecting to your car to give you a better, more direct navigation system. It comes with trip maps, traffic monitors and more. It costs a bit more than you might expect for an app, but it works as a full navigation system so it is well worth the cost.

2. TomTom Eastern Europe

You have probably heard of TomTom before. They are the most popular GPS company around, and they have a program specifically tailored to Eastern Europe. Get routes, traffic reports, address directions, landscape and street view, eco routes, advanced lane guidance, a day and night mode, emergency features and a lot more. You can even get help with foot, bike or public transportation.

3. Prague Travel Guide

Get a comprehensive, on-the-go travel guide to help you navigate Prague and get the most out of your time in the historic city. From popular touristy destinations to lesser known attractions and businesses you can enjoy, it is all here. There are also offline maps and directions, so don’t worry about having a connection all the time.

4. Kiev

Take a tour through the beautiful city of Kiev, Ukraine. All guided by your iPhone and the information located within this app. It connects to GPS to let you know of interesting locations in your current area, and lets you find out about other places you might want to visit. Find best attractions, Kiev apartments, etc. All for free.

5. XE Currency

One of the most confusing parts of travel for me has always been figuring out the currency rate. Especially as it can change at the drop of a hat. This is a helpful currency converter, so you can keep track of your finances despite the difference.

6. Jibbigo

Right now the only languages from Eastern Europe this app has is Romanian and Bulgarian. But there are many other languages you might be able to use to communicate with those who know them as their second tongue. Simply speak into the app and it will translate the words for you, making communication with others a breeze.
